Escape to the Devon countryside

First Impressions

Driving down a country lane with nothing but rolling hills, sheep in the nearby fields bleating and the most dramatic views of the river Exe and the surrounding countryside, I instantly felt calm and ready to switch off. Redbrick Barn offer luxurious breaks away in the Devon countryside in two beautifully designed barns. We stayed in the main Redbrick barn which sleeps 4 people (2 adults and 2 children.) They also have the charming Studio, which is the perfect retreat for two. When we entered the barn we were taken away but the chic interiors, the architectural design of the building and the home away from home atmosphere they had created. I couldn’t wait to spend our evenings dining on the balcony, relaxing on the sofa and exploring the local countryside.

Interiors

Where rustic, country interiors meets modern furnishings, Redbrick Barn is a dream for any interior lover. Every room and corner looked like it could be straight out of a home magazine. The owners clearly have an eye for fabulous interior design and creating a statement. The attention to detail to create a property full of character and charm was obvious but felt effortless. I loved all the little touches in the open plan kitchen/living area like the pottery, art work and splashes of colour from the cushions. Most of the colours used where natural tones, which blended seamlessly with the dried and real flowers for a cosy indoor/outdoor vibe.

Room

The main bedroom can be found on the mezzanine floor. It has great views down to the open plan living space. The bedroom has an incredibly huge bed so be prepared for the most comfiest and best sleep of your life. The bathroom was like a work of art. The free standing bath tub, his and hers sink and walk in shower made us feel like we were at a 5 star hotel. The balcony was one of my favourite places to spend our down time. You get views up to the fields and the sheep that roamed them. It is such a peaceful and relaxing space you will want to have all your meals out here and spend your time laying on the sun loungers.

Nearby

Redbrick Barn is the sort of place that you will never want to leave. You could easily spend your days relaxing from your new home and just enjoying the space. However if you want to get out and explore you don’t even have to take your car. There are many walks through the countryside and along the River Exe on your doorstep. We walked to the nearby pub, Fisherman’s Cot which is about a 6 mile round trip. If you fancy a short drive, I would highly recommend visiting Knighthayes. It’s a National Trust property with plenty of grounds and walks to explore. When you are ready for food, make sure you visit The Lost Kitchen who specialise in wood-fired cooking. It is just a short walk away from Knighthayes, so its easy to pop to when you visit.

Overall Impression

From the most amazing setting, to the beautiful interiors, the views across the countryside and the peace and quiet, it really is an idyllic place to escape too. Make sure you spend your evenings dining outside or snuggled up by the fire pit and toasting marshmallows whilst you watch the stars. If you are looking for an escape to the countryside to relax, switch off and simply be then this is the place for you. It’s a great place to stay whether you want a solo retreat, a getaway with the dog and family or a fun holiday with the ones you love. It really doesn’t get much better than this.
