A romantic shepherd hut in the Yorkshire country

First Impressions

I love a shepherds hut staycation. I love the cosiness, their secluded settings in nature and the ‘back-to-basics’ vibe they offer. When we were driving down the entrance to Little Otchan Glamping, I loved that we were surrounded by countryside. This romantic shepherd hut in Yorkshire, is just one of Little Otchan various glamping options. Whether you prefer a more home-from-home retreat in a shepherd hut, or more of a camping style in their bell tents. The bell tents are all located in one field and all have access to their own private bathrooms and a shared kitchen space. The shepherds hut it located in its own space, which allows for your own privacy. It overlooks a mature pond which is teaming with wildlife and is hugged by woodland to create a whimsical atmosphere.

Inside the hut

Inside, the shepherd hut is an open living, dining and bedroom area, with a private bathroom. The kitchen comes with a portable hob, microwave and small fridge as well as all the utensils you need to cook up meals. There is also a foldaway table and chairs to enjoy your meals at too. Spend the colder months with the fire roaring inside to add to the romantic atmosphere of the hut. The double bed is tucked to one side of the hut, with a window overlooking to the beautiful nature outside. Above, is a bunk bed which allows for extra storage if traveling as a couple, or can be made up to a bed for a child. The bathroom comes with a shower, toilet and hand basin, so you can freshen up during your stay in privacy and without leaving the hut.

Outside the hut

The shepherd hut is just as wonderful outside as it is inside. Not only are you surrounded by fields, woodland and a pond which in itself creates a peaceful and calming setting, there are plenty of things for you to do to enjoy the outside space. There are 2 wooden relaxing chairs which are the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a patio set of 2 chairs and a table if your cooking up a bigger meal. To the left of the hut is a fire pit where you can spend your evenings star gazing or toasting marshmallows. The hammock is perfectly positioned under the trees to dream your day away. My favorite part, was the wood-fired hot tub where we spent most afternoons relaxing.

Nearby

There are many places to explore and things to do around the local area. Head to Beverly which is a big market town full of independent and high street eateries and shops. Make sure you visit 42nd East Bakehouse for some of the most delicious cakes ever. If you fancy visiting more quaint Yorkshire villages, be sure to explore Bishop Burton and its beautiful duck pond and Walkington which also has a charming walk way across their duck pond.

If your wanting to make the most of the Yorkshire coastline, be sure to visit Bempton Cliffs which is an RSPB site where, in the spring and early summer months, you can see Puffins. Flamborough is another beautiful part of the coast line where you can walk around the lighthouse and along the cliff path. Spurn Head is a great place to explore as its a tidal island (make sure you know the tide times so that you don’t get stuck.) Sewerby is a great beach for fossil hunting and is just down the road from Flamborough. If you want more of a classic seaside town then Hornsea has many fish and chip and ice cream shops as well as arcades. Visit the Mere at Hornsea for a charming lake where you can hire rowing boats, play pitch and putt and dine at the cafe.

Overall Impression

If your a lover of romantic shepherd huts like me, then this one is great if your looking to explore Yorkshire. We loved the outside space of having the fire pit, hammock and hot tub, it really made the stay more special and fun. Inside is a little tight and cosy at points but that’s part of the charm of a shepherd hut and glamping staycation. The location is great to be able to explore towns, countryside as well as the coast line so there really is something for everyone here. The welcome pack we received with everything to cook up a classic full English as well as other treats was such wonderful surprise too.

Prices for the hut start at around £240 for 2 nights, and you can book directly here.
