The Pig in the New Forest

First Impressions

Having stayed at multiple Pig hotels, I was excited to visit the original The Pig in the New Forest and see where it all began. The Pig in the New Forest is set within the heart of the forest so be prepared to see and hear wildlife around you and get ready to explore the beautiful countryside. I knew what to expect from a Pig hotel, but was still excited to check out the restaurant, lounges and our room. It didn’t disappoint either. With the ornamental pig standing proud and the charming wicker buggies you can use to transport your luggage to your room, I instantly felt at home. When we walked into reception we were greeted by the familiar antique furniture, old paintings and sink into me sofas in the different lounges which instantly made us feel relaxed and start our luxurious weekend away.

Interiors

All The Pig hotels are decorated in a similar way. Where country chic, meets potting shed vibes and old antique and vintage items are seamlessly mixed with modern touches. Every corner, shelf and space in the building is filled with something different and unique that catches the eye. Inside the main building, you really do feel like a lord or lady of the manor. From the velvet armchairs, potting shed themed restaurant and gorgeous inspired artwork and decor which makes you feel calm and connected to the nature that surrounds you. Whether you decide to relax in or outside you feel able to unwind in luxury.

Room

There are plenty of different rooms to choose from when you stay at The Pig in the New Forest. From Snug Rooms in the main house to Forest Cabins that are nestled around the grounds. When we stay at a Pig we love staying in one of their fun and quirky rooms. We decided to stay in the Forest Hut which is surrounded by nature, we were half expecting to wake up to animals outside our front door every morning. Inside, you are greeted by an enormous and extremely comfortable super king bed and glass floor to ceiling windows. A door near the back of the room leads you to the bathroom. Here you will find a fabulous roll-top bath that will want to spend a lot of your time in.

Dining

All the Pig hotels pride themselves on providing a menu that celebrates local produce from no further than 25 miles away. They try and produce a lot of it themselves within the grounds of the estate and within their charming walled gardens which you are able to walk around. Their menu beautifully shows were certain meats, fish, and vegetables have come from so you can see how local your food is. We ate here both nights for dinner and the service and the food were both a 10/10. The restaurant has such a wonderful atmosphere that you don’t want to leave. We also headed here both mornings for breakfast where you can choose between a continental or a cooked breakfast. Their continental range is huge and will definitely fill you up for a day exploring the local area.

Overall Impression

Again, we fell in love with another Pig Hotel. The interiors, location, service and food, it was all amazing and we were able to completely switch off and relax for our weekend away here. If you want to explore the New Forest, you can’t get a better place than The Pig. I would definitely recommend staying at the Forest Hut or another quirky room as it was very romantic and gave you extra privacy and outside space in an unforgettable setting. I would definitely return here, even if it was just for food when in the local area, there is something truly special and luxurious about spending time at The Pig.
