Visiting the newest Pig in the litter

First Impressions

The Pig in the South Downs opened their doors in Autumn 2021, and with this being the newest Pig in the litter, I knew I needed to get a stay booked in straight away. We arrived in mid-November when the trees were still bright with orange and yellow crisp leaves which created a beautiful backdrop to the main house. Having stayed at multiple Pig hotels, I knew what to expect but I was still excited to check out the restaurant, lounges and our room. It didn’t disappoint either. With the ornamental pig standing proud next to the charming wicker buggies you can use to transport your luggage to your room, I instantly felt at home.

Interiors

The Pig hotels are all decorated in a similar way. Where country chic, meets potting shed vibes and old antique and vintage items are seamlessly mixed with modern touches. Every corner, shelf and space in the building is filled with something different and unique that catches the eye. Inside the main building at The Pig in the South Downs, there are two lounges that are filled with roaring fires and sink into me sofas for you to unwind in with one of their signature cocktails.

Room

As always, The Pig has many rooms to choose from. Head to the main building for a cosy room for two, or for something more special and unique check out their properties that surround the hotel. Stay in the Old Stable for a room full of original features like stable partitions, or the Chicken Shack where the room is full of character and comes with its own sitting area. We picked a field wagon, which is similar to a shepherd’s hut but this one was on steroids. With a king-sized bed and a fireplace in the bedroom, it doesn’t get much more romantic than this. It also comes with a roll-top bath, full of their fabulous Bramley products and even an outdoor shower.

Dining

When we arrived, we headed straight for one of the lounges to start our weekend in style with some drinks and nibbles. Their cocktails are always delicious, so I highly recommend you work your way through the menu. For dinner, we ordered room service which was the perfect excuse to light up the fire and get cosy in bed. The Pigs pride themselves on their food and produce a lot of it themselves within the grounds of the estate and within their charming walled gardens. Whatever they can’t grow, make or rear they seek out to find it within 25 miles of their hotel. This means all their food is predominately local, organic and definitely tastier.

Overall Impression

Another Pig ticked off the list and another 10 out of 10 stay. The Pig hotels really know what they are doing and how to make a stay that bit more special. Our room was fabulous and perfect for a night away. With special touches like a rolltop bath and outdoor shower, it really is a memorable stay. As ever the food is always to die for and they always provide such a great range of options. If you are wanting to explore more of the South Downs, this is the perfect place to base yourself, knowing you will come back to a proper home-cooked meal and the best night’s sleep.
