A luxury stay at Number One

First Impression

Number One in Bruton was always somewhere I loved the look of, so we decided to stay in Bruton, we knew this would be the place to stay. It’s a unique 12-bedroom hotel set within a medieval forge, a sophisticated Georgian townhouse, and a row of quaint cottages. When we checked in, we were warmly greeted by all the staff and taken to our room for the night. I absolutely fell in love with Bruton, when I visited a couple of years ago and after returning the following year for a day trip, I knew I needed to stay overnight to experience all it has to offer.

Interiors

Number One perfectly mix their interiors with the history of the building with modern touches, which create rooms full of character. The interiors and decor all pay homage to the arts and craft movement of Somerset. Even when you walk into the building, the beautiful wooden staircase clashes perfectly with the floral painted walls and tiled floors. This creates such a striking welcome and gets you excited to explore the rest of the hotel. Our room was elegant and stylish and was filled with comfy soft furnishings and little decorations to admire during our stay. It was simple yet very effective and made me want to redecorate our own home.

Rooms

You will find cosy bathrobes and essential oil-based organic toiletries in your bathroom and even little packs of face masks which made us truly relax in the evening. Choose a room in the townhouse where you can have a room with a roll-top bath, original fireplace, or large dormer window. If you want to spread out, then one of their cottages with a huge walk-in rainfall shower, separate sitting area, and rooms that are filled with vintage furniture, may be the one for you. Or head to the Forge for exposed beams, original stone walls, and a terrace to soak up the afternoon sun. We choose to stay in Cottage no.2 and it was beyond perfect. It was a great place to relax as it had separate areas to sleep and lounge and the most fabulous shower.

Dining

Within the building for Number One, Is Osip. It’s a tiny, farm-to-table restaurant made from a team of local farmers, growers, hunters, and gatherers. Head here for dinner for some fine dining in this stylish Michelin star restaurant. Every room includes a fresh farmhouse breakfast from their partner Osip, so you will start your morning with a delicious breakfast of croissants, eggs and other wonderful treats in a calming and cosy atmosphere.

Overall Impression

Every room comes with a care package that includes, local cider, apple juice and cheese and crackers which is such a lovely touch and makes your stay even more special. This meant we started our stay in style and enjoyed our treats outside in the garden area, soaking up the sun while trying the local treats. I would definitely be back to stay here again and maybe try out a different room to experience another section of the hotel.
