A family retreat to the Welsh coast

First Impressions

Driving through the glorious Welsh countryside, it finally opened up to the sea which meant we were close to our holiday home, Woodlea. The driveway leads down to the painted grey and cladded bungalow which shares views across to the castle and to the estuary below. We were warmly greeted by Angela, the owner, who showed us around our home for the next few nights. In the kitchen, we were treated to some local treats of Welsh cakes, tea and coffee and crisps which was a lovely touch and was the perfect way to start off our holiday.

Interiors

The interiors of the home are simple yet luxurious. The main theme throughout the home is grey with splashes of different colours in each room. For Instance, each bedroom is similar in design but each has a different theme with the use of blankets and cushions to create individual character and charm. In the hallway the walls were adorned with artwork, celebrating the local area with fun prints, maps and a beautiful sign. The living room became the hub of the home during our stay due to the fantastic floor to ceiling glass doors which allowed you to admire the views from morning to night.

Rooms

There are 4 bedrooms, sleeping 8 people at Woodlea making it the perfect place for a holiday with family or friends. 2 of the rooms have cosy double beds and 1 bedroom has 2 single beds. They all have a space for clothes and large windows that create an airy space and let you take advantage of the surrounding views. These rooms all share a huge bathroom with a gorgeous bathtub and shower. The last room is the master suite which is a similar size to the other rooms but has its very own en-suite. All the bedrooms were comfortable and spacious meaning no matter who you decide to stay with you will all have your own space to unwind in.

The local area

Woodlea is located in Llansteffan which is on the south coast of Carmarthenshire and lays on the estuary of the River Tywi. The village is full of wonderful walks to explore, so if you fancy staying local, you will have plenty to do and see here. The castle is a short but steep walk from the home and gives you stunning views out to sea, it’s free to walk around so perfect to keep the family busy. The beach is also not to be missed and goes on for miles and miles up and down the estuary. You will be able to spend your days playing on the beach and having fish and chips from the local shop. If you fancy exploring the local area further, I would highly recommend Narbeth for beautiful shops and places to eat or Tenby for a classic seaside town and wonderful sandy beach.

Overall Impression

We had such an amazing retreat to Woodlea with the family and it was the perfect place to relax, explore and be together as a family. I would definitely come back here whether with the family again or friends. Angela and her daughter Emily were so helpful leading up to our stay with providing recommendations of where to eat locally and places to visit too which was a great personal touch. If you are looking for a family-friendly stay you definitely will enjoy your time here.
