Spending the night at the UK’s first vegan hotel

First Impressions

Known as the first UK Vegan Hotel, Saorsa 1875 is redefining the luxury hotel world by being dedicated to showcasing ethical luxury. I had heard of all the great things Saorsa 1875 were trying to achieve, and as a vegetarian, I knew I would enjoy and be spoilt with all the food on offer, so I was excited to experience the place for myself. The hotel is nestled in 2 acres of natural woodlands and gardens and has been designed for vegans, vegetarians, and the plant curious. The Hotel has won many awards for the outstanding work they do and has been named as the winner of National Geographic’s ‘Good Egg’ Award.

Interiors

The building has been restored to show off the Victorian gothic origins while seamlessly complimenting modern amenities. There are 11 bedrooms to stay in and all have been individually styled to create a calming combination by using luxurious linens, bohemian styling, and antique furnishings. Downstairs, the lounge and restaurant are the perfect spots to get cosy and unwind around the roaring fire and indulge yourself in one of their inspiring books and magazines that fill the hotel.

Rooms

The rooms are all styled slightly different and all have different features from bathtubs to stunning window seats that hug a huge window that touches the ceiling. My room was extremely bright and airy due to the large window that overlooked the garden below. The bed was very comfortable, and I had the best night sleep here. In the morning, I found out that the duvet is actually made from recycled plastic bottles which I couldn’t believe as it was so snuggly and soft. The bathroom was large so was a great space to spread out for getting ready and came with gorgeous smelling toiletries from the Natural Spa Company.

Dining

Their menu is completely plant-based and shares the very best of local, seasonal, and foraged produce. We were treated to a 5-course dinner full of vegan delights. The combination of tastes, colours and textures highlighted the diversity of vegan food and showcased to meat lovers that you can still have a tasty and hearty meal without using any sort of animal produce. The following morning, we headed back for a homemade breakfast full of mouth-watering treats from croissants, overnight oats and beans of toast, which were all vegan of course.

Overall Impression

I loved my stay at Saorsa 1875 and all the meat lovers staying, were all pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the food during our visit. Don’t be put off that the food is all vegan as you definitely don’t go hungry here and will love trying their creative vegan menu. They have really thought of everything to really practice what they preach which is a great touch. The hotel is situated in an ideal location where you can explore mountains and woodland. I would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone wanting to explore a vegan lifestyle as you really won’t believe everything is plant-based.
