A stay at The Wild Rabbit in the Cotswolds

First Impressions

When you think of the Cotswolds, you probably already have an image in your head very much like The Wild Rabbit. With its honey-hued stone exterior with wisteria growing up it, a roaring fireplace inside and all situated in a quaint English village. The Wild Rabbit is definitely a firm favourite with rooms often fully booked and the restaurant full most evenings, no matter if you just pop to the Cotswolds for a day, it really is a must-visit. I had been before for food and sat outside in their charming courtyard, but had not yet experienced their rooms. I was so excited when I finally booked a night away here to see if it really lives up to the hype we all hear so much about.

Interiors

If you aren’t aware, then as soon as you arrive you will notice a striking similarity to The Wild Rabbit with Daylesford, a truly iconic Cotswold establishment. This is because both are owned by the amazing Lady Bamford. The pub went through an incredible renovation and extension to create the spectacular place it is today. They have kept many original features that give it that Cotswold charm such as log burning fires and wooden beams. Upholstered window seating and cosy sofas ensure the space still feels warm and welcoming even in the cooler months. The dining area has a modern twist as it’s set in a beautiful timber and glass room.

Rooms

There are many rooms to choose from and all are named after British wild animals, such as The Rabbit, The Badger and The Mouse room. The rooms offer pared-back style and let features in the room do the talking like the exposed brick walls, wooden beams and of course, fabulous furnisher. Comfort is key and all the rooms come with sink-into-me beds, luxurious fine linen sheets and comfy touches like bathrobes. We chose The Rabbit room as it is their most special and trust me when we say we were blown away when we entered the room. There are 2 areas where you can relax and watch tv, a handmade four-poster bed that takes centre stage and a luxurious bathroom filled with Bamford products. Some of their rooms are dog-friendly too, which is a great touch for such a fancy place.

Dining

Known as a foodie hotspot, The Wild Rabbit really is the place to be whether for a night or just for some food. We started our evening with a glass of Champagne, where we cosied up to the fireplace to really treat ourselves. For dinner, we went for a selection of meats, cheese and bread which were perfect to enjoy fireside. The next day we headed down for a delicious breakfast. They have continental options you can help yourself to from pastries, yoghurt and cereal. Or start the day right by indulging in a freshly cooked breakfast, full of local produce. One thing we know for sure, whatever you choose to have, you won’t be disappointed.

Overall Impression

Well, what can we say except, wow. Everything here is perfect, from the rooms, the restaurant, the food, the location and more. It has a home away from home feeling where you instantly relax and feel settled. The location of The Wild Rabbit is perfect to explore all the Cotswold towns and villages we know and love, so it makes for a great getaway to the countryside. The whole place does definitely live up to the hype and I can’t wait for my next visit here.

If you stay here and love it, then don’t worry, Lady Bamford is opening a new pub with rooms, The Fox at Oddington which is just around the corner.
