A bolthole escape to the Welsh countryside

First Impressions

Surrounded by rolling hills, glorious countryside and newborn lambs, the drive up to Newlands Rural Retreat, was a memorable one. I instantly relaxed as we headed down the country lane and felt like I was able to disconnect from the world as we arrived to our little slice of heaven. The property is situated in the middle of the countryside in the heart of Wales and is around a 10 minute drive to the nearest town, Welshpool. Known as ‘The Garage’ the accommodation, as you can imagine, has been transformed from an old garage into a wonderful space. It can sleep 2 people, and is dog friendly and even comes with a hot tub that overlooks the fields around the home.

The Space

As you step inside to the open plan living area, you are greeted by relaxing tones, modern finishes and cosy touches. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for a staycation and with its sleek design you will be happy cooking up some fabulous dinners here. The living area is dominated by an industrial sheet of copper which perfectly frames the roaring fire. The sofa is extremely cosy and is where you will want to spend your evenings, cuddled up and watching a movie. The bedroom features a huge super-king bed where you will have a dreamy night sleep after a day of exploring the local area. The whole space has been carefully thought of to make sure you have a relaxing retreat away.

The best features

One thing we love when staying away is if they have a hot tub, and this one did not disappoint. It is surrounded by the rolling hills that hug the property and as we headed here in March, we were treated to being able to watch newborn lambs running and jumping around the fields while we were in the hot tub. We also loved how dog friendly they were and they even laid out 2 dog beds and left us towels and other essentials for our stay which was something we haven’t always experienced when traveling with a dog. Another great feature was the fireplace. We got in a routine of making dinner and getting on the sofa with the fire on each night which created a romantic and cosy atmosphere.

Overall Impression

We loved our stay at Newlands Rural Retreat. From the hot tub to unwind after a day of exploring the Welsh countryside, to being dog friendly which is always a big win for us. The hosts were very welcoming and left us some welsh cakes which was a really lovely treat to kick off our holiday in Wales. There are lots of wonderful places to explore not too far from the property too. Lake Vyrnwy was one of our favourites and we loved the independent shops of Shrewsbury too. If you are looking for an escape to the country where you will see and hear nothing but nature, this really is a wonderful place to stay.
