A luxury staycation at Babington House

First Impressions

Arriving at Babington House felt like I was in a period drama. The long drive leading to the exquisite stately home was tree-lined all the way from the start of the road to the car park. This instantly got us excited to see the rest of the estate and our room for the night. Babington House is a Grade II-listed manor, set on 18 acres of the English countryside, in the heart of Somerset. It forms part of the elite members club hotels, Soho House. As we entered the main house, we were warmly greeted by the staff at reception and instantly fell in love with all the interior and decorations that filled the space. There is plenty to do here to keep yourself entertained for a night or longer from tennis, their fabulous indoor and outdoor pools, and cinema.

Interiors

If you are aware of the Soho branding, then you will instantly recognise their furnishings and interiors throughout the estate. Their design is effortlessly chic, cutting edge cool, and luxurious. They use antique and vintage pieces of furniture or create designs to look like it has a story to tell and often the only modern pieces are the art, lighting, and accessories. Every corner of the estate has been cleverly thought of to provide comfort and style, so no matter where you are you feel at home. Just be prepared to want to decorate your home after a night away here.

Room

There are numerous room types to pick for your stay. From luxurious rooms in the main house to the fun and quirky walled garden, coach house, Cabin, and more around the rest of the estate. We picked the rooftop room as there was one key feature we were drawn to, the rooftop bathtub. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and bathtub, the other had the toilet and sink. The bed took centre stage in the main living area which was filled with cosy chairs, the best ‘mini bar’ I have ever come across and stunning French doors which lead out to your balcony. Outside you have views across the main garden and chapel which were amazing to look at from dawn to dusk. The best feature is the incredible bathtub. It was the perfect place to relax no matter the time, weather, or day.

Dining

There is one main restaurant at Babington House, The Orangery which serves food all day. Its luxurious but laid-back design makes it the perfect place to pop in for breakfast or visit for a fabulous dinner. The bar is just down the hallway and is a great place to sit back and relax with a delicious cocktail or they offer free afternoon tea every day which I highly recommend. By the swimming pool is the Cowshed Deli where you can pick up a nourishing smoothie, a morning croissant, or flatbread to fuel your swims during your stay. We decided to have dinner in bed as we wanted to make the most out of our spectacular room. We treated ourselves to pizzas, chips, and cocktails, which was the perfect way to end our day.

Overall Impression

We really enjoyed our stay here as it was an excuse to really switch off and just relax by using the facilities on site. The swimming pools and the Cowshed spa area were the most delightful spaces to unwind. We also loved spending time in their bar and lounges whilst sipping on a cocktail. We felt the vibe here was different from Soho Farmhouse but we still loved it as it was very calming. The space is also a lot smaller and intimate too, so there are fewer facilities. We will definitely be returning when we need a detox from the world and need a little bit of luxury in our life.
