A luxury treehouse retreat in the Cotswold countryside

First Impressions

The Fish in the Cotswolds has been somewhere I have dreamed of staying for a few years now so during the first lockdown we decided to book it as a well-deserved treat. The Fish is situated in the rolling hills of the Farncombe Estate and is just a short walk away from the idyllic town of Broadway. Driving into the estate you are greeted by a long windy tree-lined road which was the most gorgeous way to arrive. In reception, we were warmly greeted by the staff who made us instantly feel at home and detailed our stay and explained the estate layout. Even the reception was beautifully decorated with a huge fireplace that took centre stage in the middle of the room, and cosy sofas to unwind in. We couldn’t wait to see our room and we were eager to explore the rest of the estate.

Interiors

Inside our room, the interiors were a mix of bold patterns and colours in the living room to more pastel tones in the bedroom. This helped separate the space and create a calming atmosphere in the bedroom. The wooden building of the treehouse does the talking inside and outside. With curved edges of the building, that make it sit nicely within the trees and look like it’s always been part of the landscape. The wooden suspended bridge over to the house makes for a fun addition too. Inside the hotel, the lounge is filled with sink into me sofas and cosy blankets and cushions to really get comfortable and relax around the striking fireplace.

Rooms

We stayed in a treehouse as we fancied something a bit different. They all come with a spectacular decking filled with table and chairs, swinging seat for 2 and the best feature, 2 wooden bathtubs. Inside there is a king-sized bed and living room where you can cosy up. To the back of the treehouse, is the bathroom that comes complete with another bath and another room with bunk beds if you decide to bring the kids. They do offer normal rooms and suites which all look divine but if you want something quirky then you are in for a treat. If a treehouse isn’t for you then they also have charming shepherd huts to stay in. From cosy hillside huts to huge hideaway huts that come complete with roll top baths or why not go for my favourite, ‘Boaty McBoatface’ which has its very own lake.

Dining

The Fish has an impressive restaurant on site, The Hook. They specialize in offering a menu of the finest, freshest, responsibly sourced fish, sustainable shellfish and timeless classics from the land. If you want more relaxed dining, then head to their bar for some cocktails and sliders. We decided to get room service which did not disappoint. We went for their wood-fired pizzas which were perfect and for pudding their chocolate doughnuts. I’m not the biggest fan of doughnuts but trust me when I say they were amazing! Outside they have a lovely patio with heaters and fairy lights, so no matter the season you can enjoy the view. We decided to have breakfast in bed and get their hamper delivered to us. It was full of delicious treats from breakfast rolls, croissants, and yoghurt.

Overall Impression

We absolutely loved our stay at The Fish, and it was the perfect retreat to switch off for a night in the Cotswolds. All the food and drink we had during our stay was perfect and even in our room, there were welcome drinks of beer, cocktails and soft drinks along with a few snacks. As we brought Morris our dog along, they even left him a towel, a shampoo bar, treats, a toy, bedding and bowls which was a very special touch that made us and Morris very happy. We loved the muck boot station inside the reception where you could help yourself to some wellies and take one of their walk guides to explore the estate or local area. If you wanting a luxury break in the Cotswolds countryside then it doesn’t get much better than this.
