First Impressions
Having stayed at their Brighton and Oxfordshire hotels, I was excited to see how the Artist Residence in Penzance compared. Located in the charming Chapel Street in the heart of the seaside town, you instantly recognise their branding and design as soon as you walk into their reception. With fun artwork, retro neon lights and cosy soft furnishings I knew I had arrived at the right place. We received a warm welcome from all the staff and were taken to our room for the night which was located up the stairs above the restaurant and lounge.
Interiors
If you have stayed at one of their hotels before, you will know what to expect from their interiors. Country chic with a mix of bohemian styling and retro and modern pieces seamlessly blended together all create a unique, laid back atmosphere throughout the hotel. The revitalized Georgian inn has been turned into a modern hotel that adds an eccentric twist to the seaside town. The restaurant features a wood cladding wall with a huge neon sign stating that you are in their restaurant, charmingly named The Barn. Our room had a similar feel with a soft pink bathroom with bamboo framed mirrors and modern artwork dressing the room perfectly. The room itself had a rustic charm to it with wood cladding walls and the fabric headboard taking centre stage in the room.
Rooms
There are 19 electric rooms available as well as 3 cosy bedroom cottages to choose from. We stayed in the comfy double which was perfect for a night away. The rooms start from a snug double which is a lovely little nook, all the way up to their impressive cottage which can sleep up to 6 people across 3 bedrooms. If you are looking to splash out in luxury, then this is the room for you or my favourite The Lookout. Some of their rooms also allow dogs and they provide you with a bed and bowls to make your stay easier which means no one is left behind on your staycation to the coast.
Dining
The restaurant serves food throughout the day and can supply you with meals from breakfast to dinner. We popped here for lunch which was delicious. All our dishes were full of flavour and character and came so well presented you didn’t want to take that first bite. We devoured the rosemary & sea salt focaccia and Cornish olives to start which were the perfect things to pick on while we tried their cocktails. We later enjoyed the roast butternut squash, pickled apple & quinoa salad which was huge and so tasty and the sweet ‘n’ spicy prawn tacos for our mains. For breakfast, they offer everything from homemade granola with yoghurt, to buttermilk pancakes and a house-cooked breakfast. You won’t need to go far for an amazing meal during your stay.
Overall Impression
Again we fell in love with another Artist Residence hotel. Their Penzance site is the perfect mix of seaside charm and luxury touches making it a memorable stay for a night away. I would always recommend the Artist Residence hotels if you are after the perfect night away. Rooms can be more expensive compared to other places to stay but the service, interiors and food are always a 10 out of 10, so you definitely get what you pay for. If you are wanting to explore the South of Cornwall and need a haven to retreat to after a busy day of sightseeing that I would say a stay here is a must.
