The perfect winter escape to The Outbuildings

First Impression

Arriving at Outbuildings for the second time, felt like such a special treat and I couldn’t wait to explore their newest accommodation, The Pen. I instantly got the home away from home feeling I had during my first stay and knew I would instantly be able to relax in style, comfort and luxury. We received the warmest welcome from Dom and Ed who make this place even more special by their attention to detail, beautiful personalities and their passion that shines through everything they do. The Pen is the families first attempt at a self build shepherds hut and if it’s anything to go by I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more pop up on the farm. It has the familiar feel of their other rooms by celebrating vintage items and reclaimed materials but also has fabulous features like the roll-top bath, fireplace and gorgeous decking.

Interiors

As always, the interiors across the Pen have been carefully thought out to create a relaxing and charming environment that allows you to unwind and admire all the touches throughout the room. The Pen is made up of around 80% reclaimed materials which adds such personality to the home as you know every piece of wood has a story to tell. The vintage and antique decorations that fill the room also add character as there are items from just down the road in Bridport to all the way in France. The family have been very clever whilst creating this room and have made the space small but mighty, especially in the kitchen. The fold-up breakfast bar was a great touch where you could enjoy a meal whilst taking in the view but could then hide back away to give you more space.

Room

The room is perfectly positioned overlooking the surrounding countryside which means you can admire the sun rising over the trees. The bed takes centre stage in the room and is framed by stunning William Morris fabric that creates a dramatic headboard. To the left of the bed is the gorgeous copper roll-top bath that sits proudly under a skylight and comes with complimentary Outbuilding toiletries that you will want to stock up on. Opposite is a log burner that you can enjoy while either relaxing in the bathtub or cosying up in bed. There is a toilet and large shower behind a door for some privacy too which is adorned with rustic green tiles and a re-purposed copper sink. To the right of the bed is the kitchen which is full of all the utensils and cooking necessities you would possibly need to rustle up any dinner.

The Winter Lie-in Package

We choose the winter lie-in package for our stay which is a great way to get a real taste of Outbuildings. The package is for a 2-night stay on a Sunday to Tuesday from October through to March. It includes a breakfast hamper full of delights and Karen’s homemade gin which is always too easy to drink. You are also treated to a delicious winter meal hamper where you can pick from beef bourguignon, vegetable lasagne and much more and all come with side dishes and a very yummy pudding. The icing on the cake is definitely an evening at the very special ‘The Hay Barn Cinema’ with an all-you-can-eat pic ‘n’ mix which makes for the perfect date night for your stay. This is a memorable experience and one you won’t find anyone else which makes it ideal for celebrating a special occasion.

Overall Impression

Again, we had the best time away at Outbuildings. Everything from the service, the food and the wonderful extras were all amazing and made our stay that little bit better. I would definitely recommend their Winter lie-in package if you are wanting a countryside escape with lots of luxurious extras. Make sure you pop to their onsite shop during your stay where you can take a piece of the Outbuildings home with you. I always love their candles and beauty products and love recreating that holiday feeling when I’m back home. Check out their other extras for your stay too like bubbles in the woods, their food and drink menu and definitely take advantage of their text for tipple. I can’t wait to return again for another fabulous stay and to see where the Outbuildings go next, as they are definitely one to watch.
