A seaside retreat at Gara Rock

First Impression

We first visited Gara Rock a couple of years ago whilst staying in Salcombe and I instantly fell in love with the interiors, setting and ambience of the place. We decided to treat ourselves and book a night for the summer and we weren’t disappointed from the moment we stepped in. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the guest lounge area was so chic and stylish, which made us excited to explore more of the hotel and our room for the night.

Interiors

The hotel has been beautifully designed and cleverly thought of to create a chic, homely vibe without impacting on comfort and practical living. The lounge was full of pretty drawings of Salcombe and the surrounding landscape which created a lovely touch and nod to the local area. Our room was full of neutral and warm colours with splashes of sea blue to help bring the outside into the room. Our balcony was also a special addition as it had space for 2 sun loungers and seating where you could unwind with a drink and watch the sunset.

Rooms

We booked the sunset room which online looks a little small but as it was just somewhere to rest for the night, we weren’t too bothered. However, when we were taken to our room, we couldn’t believe how huge it was. There was a magnificent king size bed, filled with gorgeous patterned cushions and blankets that I couldn’t wait to sink into that night. There was a sweet area under a large skylight with 2 electric blue velvet seats and a space to create tea and coffee. The bathroom was divine and came again with a large skylight which made the space so bright and airy and came with a bathtub and salts to soak the day away.

Dining

Gara Rock has a restaurant that is open for all your meals and drinks. There is a ‘Garavan’ outside where you can pick up a selection of pastries, cakes and drinks which is perfect if you decide to walk to Salcombe or head down to the beach. We ate at the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast and all the food and cocktails we had were delicious. For dinner, we sat outside and watched the sunset while overlooking the sea below which was the perfect way to end our day. Breakfast was included so we treated ourselves to pancakes and avocado on toast which were both full of wonderful flavours.

Overall Impression

I will 100% be returning to Gara Rock and hopefully for longer than a night next time. The whole stay I felt so happy and content and it allowed me to switch off which was just what I needed. We loved the indoor and outdoor pool and were lucky enough to make use of both of them and the spa features during our stay. We didn’t have time to unwind in their cinema, so will definitely be adding that to our list for next time. Whether you are wanting a family getaway, couples retreat or a night away with a friend, this is the perfect place to visit and relax in ultimate style and comfort.
