A night at the Swan At Streatly

First Impressions

We stayed at The Swan at Streatly which was a great base to explore the wonderful villages along the Thames, as it’s just 6 miles off the M4 near Reading, so wherever you are coming from it’s easy to get to. The hotel is very stylish and has all the best modern furnishings and great interior touches throughout their rooms, bar and restaurant. The setting of the hotel is beautiful with the river running alongside which charms your instantly and you will want to spend your evening sitting alongside the water. We had the most wonderful welcome from the staff and in our room there were some yummy treats to have with your tea and coffee and the most amazing smelling bath products available (you can even buy them to feel like you are still there when you are back home.)

Interiors

The property went through a six-year renovation and was finally finished in 2019 which has really given the place a new lease of life. They have added a smart wood-panelled modern extension and a new terrace offering dining so close to the water you can touch it. Inside they have created a cosy feel throughout the interior, with rustic wooden benches and tables in the café/bar area. There are also plenty of comfy seating throughout, including deckchairs for relaxing on the lawns. It’s the very definition of countryside chic and after staying I definitely want to head to their sister hotel, The Great House at Sonning.

Dining

To end our first day with a glass of fizz in their bar which was lovely as you could sit and overlook the river (unfortunately the weather had not been on our side so we weren’t able to sit outside and really enjoy being by the water.) We then had dinner in the Coppa Club Restaurant which was fantastic, we sat in the glass conservatory that overlooks the river which was a beautiful setting for dinner. We enjoyed the Datterini Tomato Bruschetta (£6), The Coppa Burger (£13.50) and Tender Stem Broccoli (£4.50) for our mains and of course a bottle of Rose wine. The following morning, we made the walk back downstairs for breakfast which again didn’t disappoint. I had the Buckwheat and Rye Pancakes with berries, granola, seeds, and coconut yoghurt (£9.50) which was full of flavour and a great way to start my morning.

Rooms

There are a mix of rooms to choose from for your night away whether you want to save the pennies or splash your cash. Their standard rooms are small but cosy and are filled with neutral décor with a few colourful touches. All their bathrooms have rain showers and large-sized toiletries by the Natural Spa Company from Bath, which all smell incredible. The medium and large doubles have glorious river views and some even have balconies, which are perfect for a cocktail while you get ready for your evening meal. They have suites which can accomodate up to 2 adults and 3 children if you plan to visit with the family or the large ground-floor rooms are dog-friendly if you want to bring your pampered pooch.

Overall Impression

Overall we absolutely loved our stay here. Everything was just perfect from the interiors to the food, the staff to the location of the hotel. Its so beautifully decorated through out the hotel which made the stay more wonderful as you were inspired by every corner of the building and will want to recreate the look at home. I am now excited to book a night at their sister hotel and visit more Coppa clubs too. I would definitely recommend the Swan for a night away and I can promise you wont be dissapointed.

Nearby

The hotel straddles two villages – Goring and Streatley – which are both filled with pretty Victorian houses, thatched cottages and churches as old as the 18th century so they are worth exploring.

You don’t have to go all the way into London to either walk or take a boat trip along the Thames. As the Swan at Streatly is nestled in the beautiful county of Berkshire, it sit’s right along the river and has everything you could want from a mini break, from quaint villages, independent boutique shops and boat trips to admire the riverside properties.

Berkshire is a county in south-East England and is full of diverse places to visit from bustling towns to rolling hills and winding paths through woodlands to riverside pubs. If you are looking to explore the countryside, eat in some fancy restaurants and shop in some lovely towns that are full of wonderful shops, then I would definitely suggest a weekend along the Thames.
