Bucket list adventures in the UK

So, here we are, we have made it to 2021!! I think we are all hoping for a better year than the last one, so what better way to kick off the new year than setting yourself some New Years Resolutions.

Below I have created a list compiling of 20 amazing adventures of places to go, stay, and things to do all in the beautiful UK. Whether you want to just pick one or two or try and do all 20 on the list, I hope it inspires you to visit places you haven’t seen yet and have some unforgettable experiences right on your doorstep this year.

Camp on a Scottish island

Scotland is a beautiful place to visit if you haven’t already, especially if you head out to the different Lochs and Highland. Whether you want to hire a campervan to explore the coastline and countryside Scotland has to offer or stay in some amazing hotels, you need to spend at least one night on a Scottish Island with just the countryside for company. We are planning a Scottish road trip for this summer so keep your eyes peeled for that to see what adventures we get up to.

Learn to surf on Watergate bay

It may be a little chilly to go surfing right now but hopefully, we will have a wonderful summer which means you will be running into the sea to cool off. Challenge yourself to learn a new skill and have a go at surfing, and what better place than the beautiful Watergate Bay in Cornwall. There are a few surf schools at the bay, so find the best one to suit your ability.

Horse riding in the Malvern Hills

If surfing doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, then don’t worry, there are plenty more adventures to be had. If you haven’t been horse riding before, I can’t recommend it enough. There is something so relaxing and tranquil about riding a horse, especially if you do it in a picturesque location, like the Malvern Hills. This is something you will never forget and be an incredible memory to always look back on.

Climb Snowdon

It’s the highest mountain in Wales and England, so if you are setting yourself some goal for 2020, this could be the perfect one for you. It takes on average between 5-7 hours to climb up and come back down, so make sure you take a picnic for the journey but you will be rewarded with the most amazing views once you reach the top.

Walk along the Giants Causeway in Ireland

This is definitely one on my bucket list and to just explore more of Ireland in general. The Giant’s Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns and is a result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. There are lots of delightful walks around this area to take in the sea views and countryside that surrounds it so you are in for a treat when you visit.

Go on the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe

If you are an adrenaline junkie, then this one is for you. Set in a slate quarry in Wales is a 500ft-high zip line with a mile-long ride over the old quarry and giving you panoramic views of the local coastline. Be ready to scream as you reach speeds over 100 mph and feel like your flying, make sure to check out the other amazing adventures they have on offer.

Have a sleep over with the lions at Port Lympne Reserve

Animal lovers will love this place, not only is Port Lympne Reserve a breeding sanctuary for rare and endangered animals but you can stay here for a night or two in some of the most incredible and once in a lifetime rooms. Spend the night in a room where they are set within the lion’s natural and spacious habitat and feature picture windows in both the master bedroom and the open plan living area, meaning guests will be just a breath away from these magnificent animals.

Watch a show at the Royal Albert Hall

From Opera to Plays and Musicals to Ballets, there is a performance that everyone will love and want to watch here. Just the inside interiors are breathtaking and you will feel like a royal when you attend a show, so treat yourself to a memorable evening and live like royalty for the perfect date night.

Sleep under the stars but in style

The Enchanted Faraway Tree in Kent will give the most amazing experience without having to live your home comforts. This delightful property has a magical stargazing bedroom, so you can spend your evening and mornings laying in bed and watching the stars come out and the sun rise. They also have a fabulous outdoor hot tub and a roaring fire pit making it the perfect getaway.

Do a hot air balloon ride where you live

This has been on my bucket list for a while, so hopefully, 2021 will be the year I can tick it off. Imagine flying in a hot air balloon above your house and local area and seeing life from a different viewpoint. This is one of those once in a lifetime experiences you will never forget.

Cycle around Silverstone

If you are a Formula 1 lover, then this is the experience for you. You can actually cycle around the Silverstone race track and take in the track from the racer’s viewpoint. This makes for a fun day out for the whole family even if you aren’t a car enthusiast and good to get in some exercise if that’s also one of your New Year Resolutions.

Visit the Isle of Scilly

The Isles of Scilly are an archipelago off the Cornish coast, in southwest England. The islands are covered in heathland and fringed by sandy beaches that are covered in palm trees, so you will think you have flown to a faraway tropical island and not just popped to Cornwall. This will make an unforgettable holiday especially if you can’t go abroad this year.

Hire a boat for the day

There is nothing better than the sea breeze in your hair and just being surrounded by water, but why not take it one step further and hire your own boat for the day. Take it for a spin to see the coastline from a different viewpoint, or find a hidden cove to stop at for a beach picnic.

Watch a show at the Minack Theatre

I have been lucky enough to visit the Minack Theatre on numerous occasions but have never been to watch a show which would be amazing. Having unspoiled views of the sea, watching the sunset as you watch an incredible performance sounds like a dream to me.

Go to a festival

The UK has so many fabulous festivals to go to whether you want the classic of Glastonbury, the family-friendly Latitude, or a smaller local festival on your doorstep. There is something for all interests whether you want somewhere that’s great for food, where you can take the dogs and children, or somewhere quirky. Get searching to find the perfect one for you.

Explore the countryside by steam train

Hop on board for a ride like no other as you take in the beautiful scenery, and have first-class service on one of the UK’s unforgettable steam train journeys. From Cornwall to Scotland and everywhere in between there are adventures for everyone depending on whether you want countryside views, taste the sea air, or to experience true vintage train travel.

Go Punting in Cambridge or Oxford

In 2020 I got to go punting in Cambridge and absolutely loved every second of it, I even got to have a go which made it even more fun. So now I need to head to Oxford and have a go there too. Luckily both places have lots of options for Punting so you are sure to find the best company for you and some even offer fun experiences like a pizza date, champagne punting or why not give it go yourself.

Have afternoon tea at the Ritz

Indulge in a slice of one of the finest British traditions and have Afternoon Tea at The Ritz. They are the only hotel in the UK to have a certified Tea Sommelier, who travels around the world to various tea plantations to source their wonderful teas and it’s all served within the beautiful Palm Court, which boasts glittering chandeliers and elegant mirrors.

Hunt for Fossils on the Jurassic coast

Have a go at finding your own fossils along the Jurassic Coastline whether you head out yourself or go along with a guide who can teach you techniques and take you to the best spots so hopefully you can find a treasure or two.

Eat a local delicacy in each UK county

When you visit different places in the UK do you ever try their local delicacy? Explore the area not just by walking around it by tasting it too and try some of the different food that comes from all over the UK from Haggis, a Bedfordshire Clanger or Eton Mess.
